Bonplandia is a poorly known genus of herbs or soft shrubs composed of one or possibly two species native to Mexico. The genus is interesting for several reasons including its 1) early divergent position on the family 2) a likely bee-pollinated clade in an otherwise hummingbird or bat pollinated clade (and consequently small flowers), and 3) its zygomorphic corolla.
Bonplandia is clearly sister to Cobaea.
Bonplandia is endemic to Mexico. It is more widespread than the map indicates.
